World Malaria Day observed at Ziro
ITANAGAR, Apr 25: The cause of malaria and its various preventive measures were explained in details before the students and community members during World Malaria Day observation at Ziro today.
District Bector Borne Disease Control Programme (DVBDCP) Consultant Ngilyang Tabyo explained the causes, signs and symptoms of malaria while DPO, VHAI Chaitan Kumar highlighted the various malaria preventive measures such as indoor residual spray of DDT, using mosquito nets or long lasting insecticidal nets (LLIN), wearing full cloths and using mosquito repellents.
Stagnant water is the breeding ground for mosquitoes, he said and suggested them to remove or drain out stagnant water so mosquitoes can not breed. The role of PRI, ASHA, students, and community members in prevention of malaria was also explained.
A quiz competition based on Malaria was also organized in which students of Frontier Schools participated.
The programme was organized jointly by VHAI and DVBDCP Lower Subansiri.
Around 200 students, teachers and public participated in the programme.
Forest fire keeps firefighting personnel on toes
ITANAGAR, Apr 25: The department of environment and forest today swung into action to fire fight the raging forest fire which has engulfed surrounding hills of capital complex. Along with the help of Arunachal Pradesh fire and emergency service, the team of forest officials managed to douse of the wildfire near Dree ground and Toyota dealer. The team of forest officials led by RFO Social forestry B Gamlin, RFO IG Park Taba Teni along with their staffs managed to contain the fire. The forest team of Lobi wildlife range along with staffs of IG Park led by deputy forest ranger K Jonkey doused of fire nearby Ganga village.
Meanwhile, the department of environment and forest has fervently appealed to the citizens of capital complex to help department in containing forest fire by being responsible citizen and informing department whenever they see any fire. They appealed to the citizen to remain alert. Further department urged citizens not to set fire in the nearby forest area.

ITANAGAR, Apr 25: Claiming that heavy storm on April 20 last destroyed as many as 40 households including granaries, pipelines, school buildings, teacher’s quarter and church and banana, papaya and other cultivations, the Anchal Samiti Member of 38 Sango Boa Anchal Segment, Kurung Kumey district Rai Tat has called on the concern DC to send an official team in the area to access the damage and provide relief to the victims.
He also asked the state government to send relief materials to the victims.
Awareness workshop of fire mishap held
ITANAGAR, Apr 25: An awareness programme was organized today in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar Capital Complex Mige Kamki to create awareness on handling fire extinguishing equipments amongst officers and staff of the office as well as the general public.
Addressing the participants, the DC advised them to fully utilize the opportunity as fire doesn’t come knocking and can happen anytime anywhere. So, he said, everyone needs to be prepared and know the technicalities of handling the equipments. “During such accidents, panic is created so each one should be prepared to tackle the situation on their own,” he said. The DC even encouraged the general public who were present in the office during that time to participate and learn from the programme.
Takhe Horming of Fire Service department explained in details the composition, working and management of the fire extinguishers. He along with his team from the fire service department also presented a mock drill on the technicalities of handling fire extinguishing equipments where the staffs were also given training on handling the equipments. Informing that around 35 fire calls have been received by the department in the last four months, Horming said that more such programme should be organized in the future to make public aware of its hazards. The DC also stressed on the need of installing fire extinguishers in the office and asked all to keep at least a set of extinguishers installed in their home and if possible in their vehicles as well to be prepared in advance for such situations.
Later, the team of fire service were faced by a volley of questions to which they explained in details each of their queries. The DC also actively participated in the discussion and provided input from his side as well and also lauded the team on their effort to aware people.

IDEA observes World Malaria Day
KIMIN, Apr 25: Itanagar Diocesan Empowerment Association (IDEA) in collaboration with District Vector Born disease Control programme (DVBDCP) observed World Malaria Day at Durpaline Kimin today on the theme “Invest in the future; defeat malaria”. The preventive and curative methods of malaria were highlighted through mass rally with placards and banner, role play, quiz competition, Power point presentation and various sessions on malaria taken by Tatung Tayang, Zonal malaria Officer of Papumpare district, T.P Tara, the DVBDCP Consultant of Papumapre District, Fr. Joseph Vadayaparambil, the Director of IDEA and Nikap Nada, Malaria Technical Supervisor of Community Health Centre Kimin.
While focusing on the theme, Tatung Tayang said that World Malaria Day is the most important awareness raising day on malaria and informed public to focus on preventive aspects of malaria. More over district malaria officer appealed villagers to cooperate with NGO, IDEA and with government officials to eradicate malaria. The Director of IDEA lauded government officials of DVDBCP for their tremendous support rented to IDEA to the smooth implementation of intensified malaria control programme at project coverage areas. Large number of villagers attended for the progrmme. The officials of NVBDCP and best performing field level staffs were honored with mementos by District Malaria Officer and the Director of IDEA for their continuous support to implement intensified malaria control programme in the district.

He expressed his concern on proactive role that is missing in NERIST and RGU. He also suggested for increasing the strength in all subjects. He further said that Imparting Quality Education is the biggest challenge posed in front of us as on today. “We must focus and stress upon the nurturing and developing future faculties for better Arunachal and best India.”
While discussing he said that what syllabus/ Course Curriculum students are studying today in many of the Universities is not revised since a decade or two. The syllabus/ course curriculum should be updated and revised regularly keeping in view the local needs, employability and national importance. He stressed upon the development of dynamic course curriculum which can only be designed and followed if the academic autonomy is provided to the faculties and authorities have to look into the matter on the proactive basis, which also caters to create healthy teaching learning atmosphere.
Skills and educational achievements were what lent the candidate their personality and good training should be able to hone that personality, he said. He advocated for encouragement of vocationalization of education system within the formal education system to enhance and identify the skills of an individual.
Dr. Joram Begi, Director, Higher & Technical Education, GoAP highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of the Higher Education in the State. While discussing he said that Arunachal Pradesh is lagging far behind in respect of current teacher and students ratio, which was 1:62 upto previous year and brought down to 1:42 at present, as compared to present National level ratio of 1:24. He further stated that the State Government is spending 0.3% of its GSDP for the Higher Education, which is very meagre for growth and development.
Dr. Joram Begi also said that maiden visit of UPSC Chairman and his team will certainly boost the morale and inspire the aspirants of UPSC in the state.

Forest fire creates havoc at Poma, damages agri-
ITANAGAR, Apr 25: Forest fire has created havoc in Poma village under Sangdupota circle of Papum Pare district. It caused major damage to agriculture and horticulture crops. According to the report fire which reached the periphery of village almost threatened to burn down the village itself. Throughout last night, the villagers struggled to contain the fire. Some of the villagers had to evacuate from their home. However by this early morning around 3 am, villagers managed to control the fire and somehow stopped it from spreading further.
The agriculture field of Techi Nyikam, Techi Yakia, Techi Paso and Techi Legi has been badly affected by the forest fire. Orange, guava and bamboo crops have been completely burnt down. The villagers have appealed to the Papum Pare district administration to compensate them for the losses. Today officials of environment and forest visited the affected area to take stock of the situation. Villagers have appealed to concern authorities to carry out investigation and find out the root cause of forest fire.

The family in a statement said, that relief money will only be accepted after there is a final closure of the case and those responsible for the death of Lt. Dabi are arrested and punished.
The family members also condemned the statement made by SP East Siang which was published in this daily. The SP stated that there was no major, external or stabbed injury on the body of the deceased.
The family questioned the reported statement of the police in which it was stated that Lt. Dabi was under the influence of alcohol as he was discharging poll duty on April 9.
Terming the statement irresponsible and concocted, the family said that Dabi performed his duty well. The family further said that giving such statement police officials are trying to to dilute the murder case and mislead the society.
Responding to the SP’s statement the family said that instead of dousing the fire the police has ignited the sentiments of the family members. It further questioned the integrity of the police for giving such provocative statement.
The forensic result are still being awaited but the police seems to know more than they are willing to divulge by making such irresponsible statement.
The family members are compelled to disclose the post mortem report to the media that clearly confirms that the death was caused due to forceful impact of multiple injury on the body.
Since, there was an altercation between the presiding officer and the polling agent with Lt Dabi, the family claimed that there is a political conspiracy.
They requested the authority to take in remand all the polling officers and polling agents till inquiry is completed.
Family members also requested the media not to entertain or publish any irrelevant or provocative news.
Meanwhile, the SP who met the family members today refuted making any irresponsible comments. He further informed that forensic report is expected within first week of May. The wife of deceased expressed her gratitude to the DC, Nidhi Shrivastav for extending all possible help.
Teachers threaten agitation
Arunachal Teachers Association (ATA) and Arunachal Pradesh Elementary Teachers Association (APETA) have threatened to launch democratic movement against the East Siang administration if culprit involved in the ‘murder’ of Late Dabi is not booked by May 5.
Meanwhile, ATA and APETA, Ramle Banggo Block Unit has requested the DC for arrest of the culprit involved in the suspected murder of Lt. Dabi. It called for immediate arrest of polling officials, polling agents.
ABA Relief and Rehabilitation Centre inaugurated
ITANAGAR, Apr 25: The Relief and Rehabilitation Centre, a dream mission of Apatani Baptist Association (ABA), was inaugurated and dedicated by Lower Subansiri Zilla Parishad Chairperson Hage Kobing and ABA Executive Secretary Rev. Tage Donyi recently.
The ABA R&R Centre is a home for physically challenged, poor, destitutes and orphans located at ABA Mission Compound, Abulyang, Ziro.
Speaking on the occasion, the ZPC commended ABA for setting up the Relief and Rehabilitation Centre and exhorted all to contribute for the common cause.
The Director of ABA Relief and Rehabilitation Department Advocate Dusu Tacho informed that the long cherished dream of more than a decade have come true. He informed that there were already six differently abled inmates registered with ABA R & R Centre.
He further informed that the land where the half constructed building stands was dedicated by renowned Healer Imsu Jamir and inaugurated by Likha Saaya, Yachuli MLA cum Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture some years back.

At present time, unemployment is one of the major problems of our state. Many students go out of the state for further studies hoping that they will get good job in their own state. But finally what happens? Their dreams and hope just goes in vain. State Govt. hardly recruits or creates job opportunities in a year and maximum job are being captured by politician and rest is being sold.
In view of the above problem, I appreciate and extend thanks to T.K Engineering consortium pvt ltd for recruiting more than 100 engineers in their company and in one way or other, it helps the unemployed youths. To my opinion, the said Company should be exempted from all the state taxes and departmentally share (percentage). I am very much sure, that state Govt. will never be able to create so many jobs in a year as T.K Engineering consortium pvt ltd had done at a time. I wish owner/Proprietor of T.K Engineering consortium pvt ltd that he achieves all the dreams he had weaved for the Company.

Jollang IV village struggling to get portable water supply
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of concerned authorities
towards portable water crisis in Jollang-
Most of the bore wells have dried up in our area. No humanitarian service has been delivered by the so called PHE &WS Department in spite of their tall claim that my village is being connected with water supply system. In fact their last year’s G.I Pipes which they had laid in the name of connecting water supply system to our village are seen lying here and there broken into pieces and no one is taking care of it.
With a high expectation and hope to serve their interests I have been democratically elected by valued people of my village to the post of Gram Panchayat Chair person under Jollang Anchal Samity segment. Because of it I am placing the grievances of my public.
It is my primary and essential duty to readdress miseries of my people and to protect their valuable lives from the prey of waterborne diseases. My question to the PHE & WS Department, what is the motto of your Department? Is it your motto not to provide portable water to your own brother, sister, father and mother?

Let us preserve our natural resources for better tomorrow
Dear Editor,
Today, every sector of the capital complex is facing acute shortage of water supply. It seems that there is a major water crisis in our state capital. If this is the situation by this time then what will be the future? How the coming generation will survive without water? The dream of drinking water supply which is available in all metropolises is a gibberish mania in our capital. It seems that, even, the mega water project had failed to resolve the problem of water scarcity in the capital complex. No doubt, most of us had dug wells in our residential areas but most of them have been dried up now.
Well, for such situation, we all are collectively responsible for it. Everybody knows that our mother earth is the only planet where life is possible because of its water content. She gives everything to us that are required for a good and healthy life. She gives us water, forest, beautiful mountains, flora, fauna and what not. Despite these beautiful gifts given to us at free of cost, we are destroying these gifts day by day by cutting down beautiful trees and razing down mountains. Even, the fresh rivers have been converted into dumping places. Everywhere, dozing down of beautiful mountains, deforestation of the natural forests is seen every day. Even the planted trees of the forest department have not been spared by us.
History says that downfall of civilization is caused by many factors like famine, drought or destroyed by the enemy. The renowned town Fatehpur Sikri of Agra, Uttar Pradesh from where the great Mughal ruler Akbar the Great got his son Prince Salim has to be abandoned due to the water scarcity in the later stage. All over the world, the major cities and towns have been established nearby by sea or big river in view of the growing necessity of water in days to come. But, unfortunately, there is no sea and big river nearby our capital city Itanagar. We have only small tributaries like Ganga River and Chimpu River that culminate into Pachin River. These tributaries are also drying up now. The size of these rivers is diminishing annually at a very faster rate.
Now, a conclusion can also be drawn from the ruins of ITAFORT. As per these wrecks,
once upon a time, there has been a major civilization in Itanagar. But, the area
has to be abandoned, the reason not exactly known till today. Abandoning of the
Itanagar city due to water scarcity by that civilization cannot be ruled out. Moreover,

The unfortunate burning of forests and demolishing of natural mountains in and around the capital complex is a major concern. Everywhere, deforestation of our beautiful forest resources is going on. The beautiful mountains are being converted into a plain land by bulldozing continuously. This continuous erosion of our natural resources by ourselves is going to cause a major disaster in the days to come. As the sources of water is only and only the mountains and the forests, let us protect the natural resources of our capital complex from further damages and help it to regain the natural beauty. Let us think too for the life of the future generation.
